| A Welcome from Greg
Ogletree
| |
This collection of official and unofficial
patches belongs to Major (Retired) Greg Ogletree, author of "Air
| Force Missile Patches" and "History of the Missile Badge." Greg offers the following comments about the | |
| gallery - | |
| Welcome! I am pleased to be allowed use of the AAFM Website to share a portion of my patch | |
collection with you. I have thousands of
missile-related patches and, when this project is completed,
| these pages will illustrate patches from virtually every missile organization that ever produced | |
| insignia. You'll be viewing "pieces of history" that, collectively, relate the mission of | |
| nuclear-tipped missiles and those who performed it - and, indeed,
are still performing today.
| |
| Patches provide a tangible
connection to our rich missile legacy because they were actually
worn
| |
| (or at least intended for wear) by those who performed duties related to these weapons systems. A patch | |
| announced, "Hey, this is who I am and this is what I do." And we were darned proud of it! | |
| A word about the
patches themselves: The scans are of patches actually in my
collection - not
| |
decals, plaque plates, art work, etc. And
all these patches are authentic, vintage patches rather
than
modern reproductions or reunion pieces. Because my collection
includes what collectors call
variations, and because most viewers
aren't really interested in subtle differences in colors or in
looking at identical patches that differ only in size (which would
look the same here anyway
| because the sizes have been standardized), I'm including only patch variations that differ in some | |
clearly visible way. If you are a collector and
you're curious about sizes or variations not shown, please
contact
me.
| |
I wish to thank
Colonel Charlie Simpson, who not only allowed me this forum to share
my collection | |
but also has spent countless hours posting the scans
and crafting all the accompanying text. I also
wish to
publicly thank the hundreds of people and organizations who donated
a patch to this
| |
collection. Eventually, the names of the
contributors will appear on these pages, hopefully directly under
| |
Can You Help on These?
the patch they donated. If you have a patch that's not here
and you'd like to share it with everyone else,
please consider
donating it. Remember, any enjoyment you've derived from
viewing this collection has
been possible only because many others
decided their patches deserved someplace better than the
bottom of a
drawer or a shoebox under the bed. And if you have access to
newly created patches, like
those for test launches, SELMs, Guardian
Challenge, flight patches, class patches, or other unofficial
"morale"
patches (which is why this project will likely always be a
work in progress), please consider
sending one this way so we can
post it for all to see and enjoy. And now, that's what I
invite you to |
do - look, and enjoy! I wish you a wonderful
journey through these pages! |
